An Artist-in-Residence program (AIR), where artists and creatives temporarily stay in countries or regions away from their usual environments for creation, research, presentations, and other activities, was launched at Joshibi University of Art and Design in 2022.

About JOSHIBI AIR
A Place Where People Connect to Create New Beginnings
JOSHIBI AIR invites artists and creatives from both Japan and overseas to the university, supporting activities that lead to new creative avenues and research.
Artists can deepen their research by utilizing on-campus facilities such as studios, workshops, and the museum and library archives, as well as through interactions with faculty members who are specialists or artists themselves.
This dynamic environment fosters new inspiration and encourages artists to explore experimental forms of expression. Additionally, the artist’s personal learning and experiences contribute to teaching opportunities, including lectures, artist talks, and workshops for students, faculty staff, and the wider community. This, in turn, influences the education and research of both students and staff, while also supporting the international careers of graduates and enriching the art scene. Through the reciprocal impact of these activities, we aim to broaden understanding of domestic and international artist-in-residence (AIR) programs and different cultures, contributing to the creation of a society that embraces and values diversity.
