JOSHIBI AIR 2026

Amaya Suberviola

Visual artist. Born in Mendavia, Navarre, in 1993. She holds a BA in Fine Arts and an MA in Painting from the University of the Basque Country. She has lived in Bilbao since 2011, where she develops a practice closely linked to contemporary painting. 

Her interests stem from an exploration of the behavior of images and their consumption in the digital age, and how these dynamics can shape and influence painterly practice.

Some of her most recent work has been recognized by the BMW Painting Prize 2025, the City of Alcalá Visual Arts Prize 2025, and the First Prize at Ertibil 2025. She has also taken part in artist residencies such as the Basque Artist Program at the Guggenheim in New York in 2024, an experience that enabled her to develop new lines of inquiry and perspectives within her practice. 

She is currently working at the BilbaoArte Foundation through a production grant and studio residency, where she continues to expand and consolidate her artistic practice.

Arvi Fetalvero

Arvi Fetalvero (born in Quezon City, Philippine in 1989) is an interdisciplinary artist, independent curator, and researcher, whose body of works ponders the dynamic tensions of the periphery and the center, exploring ideas of space and fluidity and rigidness of its boundaries. Her multilayered creative and research process combines a series of material experimentations, site-responsive installations, ritualistic journaling, and archiving. Recently, her themes also incorporate gardening principles to internalize issues related to her sense of place and belonging.

She is currently taking her masters in Art Studies, major in Curatorial Studies from the University of the Philippines-Dilliman; and is writing her thesis on the recent shifts in female art history in the Philippine Contemporary Art, a continuation of an ongoing research since 2014, entitled  “A Study on Herstory.”

Her most recent solo exhibitions include: “Quiet Tension," Vinyl on Vinyl Gallery, Makati, 2026, and “Growth in Decay,” Gravity Art Space, Quezon, 2024.

In 2026, she won the Philippine Art Awards (PAA) - Award of Excellence; and was also a recipient of an international grant for the International Artistic Research Training Program, organized by Philippine Women’s University and Sint Lucas Antwerpen Belgium, in partnership with Vliruos.

Mariko Yoshida

Born in the Tohoku region of Japan in 1997.  Graduated with a BA in Oil Painting from Joshibi University of Art and Design in 2019, and with an MFA in Comprehensive Human Sciences from University of Tsukuba in 2021. Mariko Yoshida's practice explores the fundamental forms and phenomena generated by nature. In recent years, she has incorporated primitive materials such as beeswax and driftwood into her works, creating luminous, semi-transparent surfaces with vivid colors.
