このたび、女子美術大学の外国招聘特別講師プログラムにおいて、オーストラリアのブリスベン市にあるクイーンズランド州立美術館/近代美術館(QAG/GoMA)の太平洋美術キュレーター、ルース・マクドゥーガル氏をお迎えします。テキスタイルを専門とするマクドゥーガル氏は、女性アーティストやグループとのコラボレーションにおいて長い経歴があり、創造力の多様性を大切にしています。

現在は、アジア・パシフィック・トリエンナーレ(APT)のキュレーター・チームのメンバーを務めており、主なキュレーション活動として、「Pacific Art 1980-2023」(2023-24年)、「No 1 Neighbour: Art in Papua New Guinea 1966-2016」(2016年)、「Threads: Contemporary Textiles and the Social Fabric(2011年)などがあります。

今回の講演会では、「Pacific Art 1980-2023」展で展示された女性アーティストを紹介します。

International Special Lecturer Program, Joshibi University of Art and Design

Open Lecture:hey sis – creating connections in the Pacific
Speaker: Ruth McDOUGALL, Curator, Pacific Art, Queensland Art Gallery / Gallery of Modern Art, Australia

This lecture engages with the two-part collection exhibition sis: Pacific Art 1980-2023 currently on display at the Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane. Focussing on the work of eight of the 40 artists in the exhibition, the lecture highlights the importance of collaboration in creating a sisterhood of artistic solidarity, and how building long-term relationships with these sista’s through the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art series has guided the ways in which QAGOMA engages with artists and communities in the region and builds its Collection.

For Joshibi University’s International Special Lecture Program, we are delighted to welcome Ruth McDOUGALL, curator of Pacific Art at the Queensland Art Gallery / Gallery of Modern Art located in Brisbane, Australia. With a specialism in Textiles, McDOUGALL has a long history of collaborating with women artists and collectives and celebrates creative diversity.

Ruth McDougall is currently Curator, Pacific Art at the Queensland Art Gallery l Gallery of Modern Art, Australia. She is a member of the Curatorial team for the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT). In her role she has curated sis: Pacific Art 1980-2023 (2023-24); No 1 Neighbour: Art in Papua New Guinea 1966-2016 (2016) and Threads: Contemporary Textiles and the Social Fabric (2011). 

For her lecture at Joshibi University, McDOUGALL will introduce women artists exhibited in the Pacific Art 1980-2023 exhibition.
