What Makes Our School Special

Integrated educational structure

Joshibi High School and Junior High School of Art and Design are integrated schools with no clear separation between school grounds, school buildings, teaching staff or school events.
For that reason, the environment at Joshibi constantly encourages communication between junior high school and high school students.
Artwork produced in past art classes is always on exhibit on the display boards at the front of the classroom at each junior high and high school year level, enabling students to gain a feeling for how their study is progressing, as well as raising their sense of expectation and awareness toward learning the arts.
Moreover, the school festivals and athletic meetings are held at the same time in the same place, so junior high and high school students participate in school events together and junior high school students have the opportunity to absorb various things from the high school students.

In addition, all teachers at Joshibi High School and Junior High School of Art and Design are qualified to teach at both junior high and high school levels, and can therefore teach any junior high school or high school class.
One of our first year junior high school teachers will, for example, have contact with those students in some form for six years through classes as well as club activities, committee activities, superintendent work and events. The teacher can thereby provide extensive guidance and oversee the students’ growth.
Students from other schools who pass the general entrance exam and are admitted to the high school join the same classes as students from Joshibi Junior High School of Art and Design. This is because we believe that an environment of positive, mutual stimulation is important, especially in art class.

Integrated school systems vary from school to school, but at Joshibi we believe that this structure is the most beneficial for achieving our educational objective of “stimulating creativity and heightening sensibilities through art education.”

Our junior high school encourages the natural development of familiarity with art in a bright, casual atmosphere. The art curriculum is specially designed with higher education at our high school and university in mind. It includes sculpture, ceramics, printing, dyeing and art appreciation in addition to the core components of painting, drawing and design. It thus facilitates the acquisition of basic junior high art skills and the development of a higher level of expressiveness.

Our high school offers a general course, but the curriculum emphasizes art, thus fostering both breadth and depth in education and contributing to the development a fresh sense of perspective on the world through the joy of creativity that art offers.
In their third year, students elect to take either a fine arts or design course, and proceed to specialize in their area of choice.

These higher education facilities offer specialized educational programs in art to further develop student individuality and ability based on the broad education, rich sensibilities, and fundamental artistic knowledge and skills instilled in junior high school and high school.
Most students of our affiliated high school gain entry through the recommendation admission system.
