Nurturing individuality for a brighter, more colorful future

Joshibi University of Art and Design will celebrate its 110th anniversary this year in 2010. The university was founded by two women, Tamako Yokoi and Shizu Sato. The spirit of the school's founding continues to live on in the education provided at its affiliated schools. This year will also mark the completion of a new school building on the Suginami Campus that will
feature a new academic system. There will be four classes per grade in the junior high school and the high school's general course will feature more art classes, resulting in the development of a new, complete curriculum. Joshibi is the oldest private university of its kind in Japan, and the affiliated junior high and high schools make it truly
unique. I want to nurture the individuality of our students by providing them with the sensitivity and intellect that Joshibi has to offer.

The new school building has adopted an advanced architectural desjgn and its efficiency is suitable for a high school attached to an art university. Once again we are sure of the success resulting from a six-year education system at combined junior and senior high schools and the meaning of the system's existence. This success is surely brought from the splendid school environment and support from the university by having an intergrated juior, senior high school and university program. A unique school tradition has been created by many mother-daughter and sister-sister pairs of graduates. We'd like to value this traditon and help students cultivate the spririt of creativity, freedom, independence and expressiveness. We also want them to have the goal of living as our dignified alumini have had in the school's 110-year history.
