Oct 1900
Private Women’s School of Fine Arts (PWSFA) is officially established with an accreditation by the Government.
Apr 1901
The school opens at its campus in Hongo-Yumimachi, Tokyo (now part of Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo.)
July 1909
The school is moved to a new campus in Hongo-Kikusaka-cho, Tokyo.
Apr 1915
Affiliated Women’s High School opens and Shizu Sato is appointed Principal.
Feb 1916
Affiliated Women’s High School is renamed Private Sato Women’s High School.
Jun 1929
PWSFA is accredited as a vocational college by the Government and renamed Women’s Academy of Fine Arts (WAFA).
Jan 1935
WAFA is moved to its present campus in Suginami Ward, Wada.
Apr 1947
Sato Junior High School opens due to educational system reforms by the Government.
Mar 1948
Sato High School opens due to educational system reforms by the Government.
Feb 1949
Women’s College of Fine Arts (WCFA) opens due to educational system reforms by the Government.
Mar 1950
Junior College of Art and Design opens.
Jul 1951
Sato High School and Junior High School are renamed Joshibi High School and Junior High School of Art and Design.
Aug 1960
Karuizawa Student Dormitory opens in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture.
Sept 1974
Construction of the gymnasium is completed.
Apr 1990
Joshibi University of Art and Design opens new Sagamihara Campus (1900 Asamizodai, Sagamihara, Kanagawa)
Apr 1994
Master’s Degree Program of Graduate School Fine Arts is launched at Joshibi University of Art and Design.
Apr 1996
Doctoral Degree Program of Graduate School Fine Arts is launched at Joshibi University of Art and Design.
Oct 2000
Ceremony is held to commemorate the centennial of Joshibi’s founding.
Oct 2001
Joshibi Art Museum (JAM) opens in commemoration of the centennial anniversary of Joshibi’s founding.
Feb 2003
JAM is presented with a piano.
